Learning

At George Bass School, we teach our students skills for life using content from the NSW curriculum. Teachers create individual learning programs and are supported by School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs) to implement teaching strategies which help students achieve their goals.

Strong foundations

We focus on the skills your child needs to succeed in school and beyond. This helps them feel confident and prepared for the future.

High-quality education

We offer a range of subjects to match what students enjoy and want to learn about. Our skilled teachers support every student to find what they love, do their best and experience success.

Inclusive and personalised learning

Teachers adjust how they teach to suit your child’s needs, interests and learning pace. They make sure every student feels supported to learn what is meaningful and necessary to them.

Skills for life

All teaching at George Bass School is focused on life skills and providing programs that reflect real world situations.

What students learn

Students learn a wide range of subjects in the NSW curriculum. They build skills, think creatively and prepare for life beyond school.

Religion and ethics

We do not deliver formal Special Religious Education (scripture) classes.

Our programs focus on developing students’ understanding of values such as respect, inclusion, fairness and empathy through everyday learning experiences and social interactions. These values are embedded across the curriculum and supported through our wellbeing and personal development programs.

Families are encouraged to contact the school if they would like further information about how we support students’ ethical and social learning within our inclusive education setting.

Our learning approach

Our school uses explicit teaching. This means we clearly tell students what they are learning, why it is important and how to do it step by step. Explicit teaching helps students understand new ideas by breaking them into smaller parts.

Learning at our school is student-centred, inclusive and practical. We are committed to equity and access. We support all learning styles and needs. Our teachers use proven teaching strategies. They take part in ongoing professional development to stay up to date with best teaching practice.

Post-School Pathways

At George Bass School, we are committed to preparing students for a successful transition beyond school. Our post-school pathways program focuses on developing each student’s independence, employability skills, and community participation.

Through individualised planning and collaboration with families, support services and external agencies, we help students explore meaningful options such as further education and training, supported or open employment, volunteering, and community engagement.

Our goal is to ensure every student leaves school with a clear pathway that reflects their strengths, interests and aspirations, enabling them to thrive as active members of the community.
